Becoming a Professional
Being in the child care field requires you to conduct yourself in a professional manner. It is important to uphold a set of standards that is expected of those working in the child care profession. Knowing your centers guidance policy and guidelines is necessary so that you can uphold their standards and procedures. Working together with staff members requires you to have interpersonal skills. These skills are also needed when talking with parents, administrators, and other child care professionals. The more you communicate with others the easier it becomes to keep that line of communication open. Working in the child care field, you develop your own personal philosophy. This can be tailored to your own personal beliefs, but should also reflect your centers current policy as well. Being culturally sensitive is a must when becoming a child care professional.
This semester I learned how important it is to always uphold yourself in a professional manor. Parents feel more comfortable leaving their children in the care of someone who is always courteous and professional. I know that when talking with peers, parents, or other child care professionals it shows your credibility when you are knowledgeable about many areas of child development, especially with conducting conferences.
